Wow. This definitely seems to me like one of those fights that you lose even if you win. Pride often is the motivator behind our 'fight for Christ'. He doesn't need any help and I'm not sure how this falls under either the Great Commandment or the Great Commission. To be honest, it's quite the opposite.
I live in Raleigh, NC and have heard about this controversy. I saw the follow up video that included your comments about loving the Lord. Thank you for your willingness to communicate the true gospel. I too believe that we shouldn't be worshipping our symbols, our traditions, or our "rights". Hmm... those all seem like a graven images, don't they? Let us all focus on treasuring our glorious Savior and making much of HIM to those around us.
I too am a product of fundamentalism. But I thank God for His grace in showing me the man-centered trappings of legalism. I will stay tuned to your blog from now on.
A.P. Read your posts on the issue. You did a fantastic job!!! I added your blog to our blogroll, not that we'll generate much traffic for you, but there you are! :)
I'm very familiar with the King story. I think it serves to highlight how gun rights and flags and southern culture don't actually really fit all that well with the teachings of Jesus in the Bible. It's a confusing combination. I should know-I grew up in it. And this story illustrates that culture is something people are way more passionate about than the love of Christ. People don't lay aside the cultural stuff and let the love of Christ trump that. It works the other way.
Offended people: check non-violent protest: check (right?) non-violent protest with violent language (check) patriotism over Gospel (check) Gospel declarations ( ) Wrath when another religion wants to wave their flag (to be continued)
Thanks for the story. Maybe one day we'll get it right. Stay blessed...john
